Why do I need Home Insulation?

How does insulation work?

Insulation works on trapping heat inside your home, much like a chilly bin works to keep food and drink hot or cold. This means any heat created by heaters inside the home won’t escape through the roof or underfloor, effectively reducing your power bill and keeping your home warm
and cosy.

Why insulate my home?

Installing Insulation in your home is a great first step to helping your home stay warm in winter and cool in summer. Insulation in the roof can trap up to 35% of heat loss, while underfloor insulation can trap a further 15%.

•  Make your house up to 50% warmer this Winter
•  Increase your home’s energy rating
Enhance the value of your property
•  Reduce the impact of mould and mildew

Our team offer an obligation free home consultation and can ensure you have the right level of insulation for your home.

Home Insulation FAQs

My house already has insulation. Is it good enough?

Many New Zealand homes built after 1978 do have some form of underfloor and ceiling insulation. However most homes built prior to 2008 were built with insulation levels well below the current EECA standards. If your ceiling insulation is less than 120mm thick, or is not covering the whole ceiling cavity, talk to Aeon energy about a free home assessment to discuss bringing your home up to the NZS4246 standards.

How long does insulation last?

Pink Batts has a life time of 50 years. Pink Batts is Fire resistant and is not a good food for rodents so will not encourage rodents into your ceiling cavity.

BRANZ research has shown that a previously un-insulated home will recover the installation costs within just four years in reduced energy bills. This means a standard New Zealand home can save money for a long time after the initial investment is paid off.

What is 'R' Value?

R value is the rating given to insulation based on its ability to resist heat transfer. The higher the R rating the better the performance.

Th R value is determined by the type of product, the thickness, and its density.

How long will it take to insulate my house?

This all depends on the size of your house. In most cases the install of both underfloor and ceiling insulation is comfortably completed within one day.
